Dutch Living Lab Kick-off: Twente Local Green Deal (Almelo)
3DxVERSE will take part in the Dutch Living Lab – Twente Local Green Deal Kick-off Meeting, hosted by the City of Almelo, bringing together local authorities, industry, researchers and innovation partners to accelerate the transition towards a more circular and climate-neutral Twente region.
This kick-off marks the start of a co-creation process aimed at identifying concrete pilot ideas, enablers and bottlenecks for industrial symbiosis, sustainable energy systems and circular solutions in Almelo and the wider Twente region.
Why this event matters for 3DxVERSE?
During the session, 3DxVERSE will present how Local Digital Twins (LDTs) can support evidence-based planning, monitoring and decision-making for local energy and sustainability transitions. The event also connects directly to the IS2H4C hydrogen pilot in Aadorp, where citizen engagement, trust and inclusive innovation play a central role.
By contributing to this Living Lab, 3DxVERSE helps bridge policy, technology and citizen participation, demonstrating how digital tools can support real-world climate action at local and regional level.
Key objectives of the kick-off
- Establish a shared understanding of the Twente Local Green Deal scope, partners and working principles
- Generate actionable ideas and priority themes for pilots and demonstrations
- Identify non-technical enablers and barriers such as regulation, permitting, skills, finance and social acceptance
- Agree on next steps, ownership and follow-up actions for the Living Lab

The event reflects a core principle of 3DxVERSE: citizen-centred innovation. Building on the engagement approach developed for Aadorp, the Living Lab emphasises collaboration with local communities, trusted networks and existing social structures to ensure that digital and energy transitions are inclusive, transparent and grounded in local realities.
